The AASA National Superintendent Certification Program
School leader Dr. Matthew Wendt spent more than a decade as a superintendent in American school districts before he relocated to China to work as a foreign principal. Dr. Matthew Wendt is an active member of the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) and was a member of the 2015 cohort for the National Superintendent Certification Program.
The AASA offers the National Superintendent Certification Program to active superintendents with less than seven years of experience. The program accepts 75 to 90 participants a year in three geographically defined cohorts: the East, Midwest, and West. The program takes place over 20 months and dives deeply into administrative and leadership topics, such as school district management and fiscal responsibility.
Additionally, each participant receives coaching from an experienced superintendent. Near the end of the program, superintendents must complete a capstone project that focuses on an issue in their district.
All participants receive access to the AASA alumni network and ongoing opportunities for professional development.
